Pimpri-Chinchwad who lost their lives in the recent illicit liquor tragedy will receive financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each, following an announcement by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

30 May 2026 : The decision was announced amid growing public concern over the deadly incident that has claimed multiple lives across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Civic authorities said the compensation is intended to provide immediate support to the affected families who are dealing with the sudden loss of their primary earning members and loved ones.

The toxic liquor tragedy, allegedly caused by the consumption of methanol-contaminated alcohol, has triggered a large-scale investigation involving police, excise officials and state authorities. Several accused, including alleged key conspirators in the illicit liquor supply chain, have already been arrested. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify the complete network involved in the manufacture and distribution of the hazardous liquor.

PCMC Mayor has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the civic administration stands with them during this difficult period. Officials stated that while financial aid cannot compensate for the loss of lives, the assistance is aimed at offering relief to families facing emotional and economic hardship.

The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, with questions being raised over the functioning of enforcement agencies and the unchecked operation of illegal liquor networks. State authorities have initiated departmental action against several officials, while police have intensified investigations into administrative lapses and regulatory failures.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the illicit liquor case has continued to rise, making it one of the most serious hooch tragedies reported in the region in recent years.
