PMPML Suspends Female Employee Amid “Honeytrap” Allegations; Investigation Launched

Pune, October 08, 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) has suspended one of its female carrier employees, Surekha Baliram Bhalerao, following serious allegations of using a so-called “honeytrap” scheme to extort cash and valuables from multiple men. The suspension came as soon as the police communicated the registered case to the transport authority, which viewed the charges as incompatible with the integrity expected of its staff.
According to the police records, complaints were lodged on 17 September 2025 at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station under sections related to threats, false complaints, and extortion. The allegations claim Bhalerao manipulated personal relationships to demand money or other assets from three men. Given the gravity of the accusations, local law enforcement initiated an arrest action, and PMPML promptly responded by suspending the employee pending a full investigation.
PMPML officials stated that suspension was necessary given the potential misuse of position, especially since a public transport employee is entrusted with responsibility and accountability. The decision reflects the corporation’s zero-tolerance stance toward misconduct involving criminal allegations.
It is not the only ongoing disciplinary case within the organization: a male staff member, serving as a caretaker, has been under suspension since November 2024 for repeated absenteeism and alleged misconduct. PMPML has reiterated that any employee found guilty of misbehaviour or detracting from public trust will face strict consequences, as maintaining discipline and institutional credibility remains its priority.
As of now, the inquiry is still in the early stages. The police investigation will determine whether evidence substantiates the allegations against Bhalerao. Depending on its outcome, PMPML may initiate further internal proceedings, including dismissal or formal charges in coordination with law enforcement.
In conclusion, the PMPML’s swift decision to suspend the employee underscores the seriousness with which public bodies must treat accusations of extortion or deception. While due process must follow, this case also sends a strong message about accountability in the public transport sector: allegations of misuse of power or trust cannot be tolerated, and institutions must act decisively to preserve public confidence.
