New Delhi | 24 March, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly asserted that any obstruction in critical international maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable, amid escalating tensions in West Asia. Addressing the Lok Sabha, he emphasized that attacks on commercial vessels must cease immediately.
Without naming any specific country, Modi delivered a firm message to nations involved in the conflict, underlining India’s clear stance on ensuring the safety of global trade routes. He also condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure, including energy and transport facilities, calling for restraint and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.

The Prime Minister assured that India is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to ensure the safe passage of Indian ships navigating through the conflict-affected region. He highlighted that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is taking strategic steps to safeguard national interests.
Modi noted that the region holds critical importance for India’s energy security and trade, particularly as a major portion of crude oil and gas supplies passes through these routes. Disruptions could have far-reaching consequences on supply chains and domestic price stability.
He further stated that the government is working on multiple fronts, including securing energy supplies, protecting Indian citizens in the region, and managing potential economic impacts such as inflation.Calling for dialogue over conflict, Modi reiterated that stability in the region is essential not just for India, but for global economic balance.
