PMC approves a Rs 203 crore plan for a flyover, grade separator, and a new Ram River bridge to ease heavy congestion between Chandni Chowk and Bhugaon. Land acquisition to begin soon.

Pune | December 2, 2025:The Pune Municipal Corporation has cleared a major infrastructure plan to resolve the long-standing traffic jams at Chandni Chowk, the main entry point to the city for commuters arriving from Konkan. The Estimate Committee has approved the construction of a flyover and a grade separator on the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 203 crore. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B said the project will move to the tender stage once 80 percent of the required land is acquired.

Traffic on the route from Pirangut to Chandni Chowk has grown steadily despite ongoing road widening. With Bhugaon located just outside the municipal limits and the proposed PMRDA ring road set to connect directly to the national highway, officials expect traffic volumes to rise significantly in the coming years.

A new 30-meter long and 70-meter wide bridge across the Ram River will be built to ease river-crossing congestion. This bridge is expected to play a key role in improving travel flow on the stretch.

Chief Engineer Dinkar Gojare said the project would be executed in two phases, considering the rapid population growth in the area, which has jumped to nearly 90,000 and is projected to reach two to three lakh soon.

Three major intersections will see upgrades. A 430-meter grade separator will come up at the PVPIT College junction at a cost of Rs 27 crore. Another 870-meter flyover will be built at Ambrosia Chowk and Patil Nagar Chowk for Rs 82 crore. Officials said the project will significantly reduce travel time between Chandni Chowk and Bhugaon once completed.
