Pune Education Trust Row Turns Fatal; 11 Booked After Chairman Dies of Heart Attack

A property dispute involving an education trust in Pune escalated into an alleged assault and harassment incident, after which trust chairman Shahid Inamdar died of a heart attack. Police have registered a case against Abeda Inamdar and 10 others.

May 6, 2026 | Pune: A long-running dispute over property and alleged theft of educational material took a tragic turn in Pune’s Bhawani Peth area after Golden Newchili Education Trust chairman Shahid Inamdar died following a heart attack on Sunday. The incident has led to a criminal case being registered against Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society president Abeda Inamdar, her three sons, and a total of 11 individuals.

According to police, the clash occurred due to an ongoing conflict over the ownership and possession of a particular premises linked to the trust. The complainant alleged that a group entered the premises and took away educational material worth nearly ₹12 lakh. When Shahid Inamdar objected, an argument broke out which quickly escalated into physical confrontation.

Police sources stated that Inamdar was allegedly pushed and assaulted during the altercation. The complaint further claimed that his wife was subjected to harassment and an attempt to outrage her modesty during the incident, adding to the seriousness of the case.

Family members alleged that the humiliation and violence deeply affected Shahid Inamdar, who later suffered a heart attack. He was rushed for medical assistance but was declared dead on arrival, police said.

Following the complaint, Faraskhana Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and outraging the modesty of a woman. Police officials confirmed that the case includes multiple charges based on statements provided by witnesses and the victim’s family. Investigators have begun collecting CCTV footage from nearby areas and recording further witness statements to establish the sequence of events. Police said further action will be taken after verification of evidence and medical reports.

The incident has sparked concern in the locality, as the dispute reportedly involved repeated confrontations over the same property in the past.
