Khadak Police arrest Azim alias Palla Salim Sheikh, a wanted criminal absconding for 18 months in an attempt-to-murder case in Pune.
Pune, October 29, 2025 – Pune – The Khadak Police in Pune have arrested a notorious criminal who had been absconding for nearly one and a half years in an attempt-to-murder case. The accused, identified as Azim alias Palla Salim Sheikh, aged 24, is a resident of Lohiyanagar. He was wanted in multiple serious offences, including an attempt-to-murder registered at the Khadak Police Station last year.
After the case was filed, Sheikh disappeared and successfully evaded police for several months. During the investigation, officers learned that he had changed his residence and appearance, moving between several areas in Pune to avoid detection. Recent intelligence suggested he was hiding in Kondhwa, leading police to intensify surveillance in the area.
A special team from Khadak Police, led by officers Ashish Chavan and Irfan Nadaf, traced the suspect’s location based on a reliable tip-off. Under the guidance of Senior Inspector Shashikant Chavan, the team conducted a swift operation in Kondhwa and arrested Sheikh without resistance. The arrest was executed under the supervision of Police Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Krishikesh Rawal, and Assistant Commissioner Sainath Thombre.
Police sources confirmed that Sheikh has a record of at least six other criminal cases, including serious charges of assault and burglary. He had been a known troublemaker in the Lohiyanagar area and was listed among the wanted offenders of the police department. His prolonged disappearance had raised concerns about his potential involvement in new criminal activities.
After his arrest, Sheikh was taken into custody for interrogation, and the police are now investigating how he managed to evade arrest for such a long period. Officials are also looking into possible assistance he might have received while hiding in Pune. The arrest is being seen as a major success for Khadak Police in their ongoing efforts to curb organised and repeat crimes in the city.
Residents of Lohiyanagar and Kondhwa have expressed relief following the arrest, as Sheikh’s presence had created tension in the locality. Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding absconding offenders. The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on evidence recovered during questioning.
