A young man from Pune was fatally pushed from the moving Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express by a fellow passenger from Akola following a seating dispute. Authorities have arrested the accused and launched an investigation.

Thane | October 7, 2025 — A tragic incident occurred aboard the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express on the night of October 6, 2025, when a 20-year-old passenger from Pune, Vinod Kamble, was allegedly pushed from the moving train by another traveler from Akola. The fatal altercation reportedly stemmed from a seating dispute, escalating into violence that claimed Kamble’s life near Karjat station.

According to police reports, Kamble and a friend were traveling to Mumbai to visit Haji Ali when the confrontation occurred. The accused, identified as Mangesh Ramdas Dasore, 40, allegedly demanded that Kamble vacate the space near the train door. When Kamble refused, Dasore reportedly physically assaulted him, kicking him in the direction of the open door. This assault caused Kamble to fall from the train between Karjat and Bhivpuri stations, resulting in severe injuries.

Emergency responders from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were promptly alerted and reached the site to locate the injured victim. Kamble was rushed to a nearby hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The incident has shocked passengers and local authorities alike, highlighting concerns over passenger safety on long-distance trains.

Dasore was apprehended at Thane railway station and handed over to the GRP for further investigation. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide and are investigating the circumstances leading up to the altercation. Authorities are examining whether alcohol or other factors contributed to the violence and are reviewing CCTV footage from the train and stations to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The incident has sparked debate over safety protocols aboard trains, particularly regarding passenger conduct and the monitoring of potentially volatile situations. Railway officials and experts have emphasized the need for additional measures to prevent such tragedies, including stricter enforcement of rules regarding passenger seating, increased patrolling by the RPF, and enhanced awareness campaigns for travelers.

This tragic event also raises questions about the handling of disputes during travel and the responsibilities of fellow passengers and railway staff to intervene in potential conflicts. Authorities have urged passengers to report disturbances immediately to railway staff or security personnel rather than attempting to resolve conflicts themselves.

Local leaders and public safety advocates have called for a review of existing railway safety policies to ensure incidents like this do not recur. The Maharashtra government has also directed railway authorities to enhance patrolling and monitoring on long-distance routes, particularly during nighttime travel, when incidents are more likely to occur unnoticed.

The Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express is a key long-distance train connecting Odisha and Maharashtra, with numerous daily travelers. Passenger safety remains a priority, and the incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of how security measures can be improved across all long-haul trains, including better surveillance, emergency communication systems, and trained personnel to manage conflicts onboard.

As the investigation continues, Mangesh Ramdas Dasore remains in GRP custody, facing charges related to assault and homicide. Railway authorities, in coordination with local law enforcement, are reviewing preventive measures and protocols to minimize similar incidents in the future. Families of passengers and the public are demanding stricter enforcement and accountability to ensure the safety of all travelers on India’s railway network.
