Pune Police arrest 19, including Rajasthan suppliers, in a 23-day anti-narcotics drive, seizing drugs worth over ₹58 lakh across multiple areas.
Pune, 27 April, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics crackdown, Pune Police’s Zone 7 has dismantled an interstate drug network by arresting 19 individuals, including key suppliers from Rajasthan, during a focused 23-day operation conducted across the eastern parts of the city. The drive, carried out between April 1 and April 23, targeted rising drug activity in areas such as Wagholi, Lonikand, Lohegaon, Airport, Chandannagar, and Kharadi, where authorities had observed a growing pattern of narcotics distribution. According to official data, the operation led to the registration of 13 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the seizure of drugs valued at over ₹58 lakh.

Police teams, specially formed at the station level, conducted multiple raids based on intelligence inputs and surveillance. Initially, 13 accused were arrested for their involvement in the sale and consumption of substances like mephedrone (MD) and ganja. However, the investigation took a significant turn during interrogation, when several accused revealed that the supply chain extended beyond Maharashtra, with drugs allegedly sourced from Rajasthan. Acting on these leads, Pune Police dispatched a dedicated team to Rajasthan, resulting in the detention of six more suspects linked to the interstate network, taking the total number of arrests to 19.
The seized contraband includes 289.19 grams of mephedrone, 422 grams of ganja, and 260 grams of powder suspected to contain traces of MD, indicating a well-organised distribution system operating at multiple levels. Officials believe the racket was part of a larger supply chain catering to urban demand, especially in rapidly developing suburban pockets of Pune. The findings align with recent cases where drugs sourced from Rajasthan have been traced to local distribution networks, highlighting a consistent interstate pattern in narcotics trafficking.
Senior officers stated that the operation was launched under directives to intensify action against narcotics, as Pune continues to face challenges related to synthetic drug circulation. Over the past few years, enforcement agencies have observed a steady rise in cases involving mephedrone and other synthetic substances, often linked to organised supply chains spanning multiple states. The latest crackdown is being seen as part of a broader strategy to dismantle these networks by targeting both local peddlers and their upstream suppliers.
Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify additional links in the network and trace the full extent of the supply chain. Police are also focusing on financial trails, communication records, and distribution routes to uncover the larger ecosystem behind the racket. At the same time, citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activity through emergency helplines or local police stations.
The Pune Police have indicated that similar targeted operations will continue in the coming weeks, with a focus on prevention, awareness, and strict enforcement. As the city expands rapidly and urban demand evolves, tackling interstate narcotics networks remains a key priority for law enforcement agencies.
