Pune Police Seize Four Country-Made Pistols, Five Live Cartridges; Two Notorious Criminals Arrested

Pune Police apprehend two criminals in Shivajinagar, seizing four country-made pistols and five live cartridges during a major anti-crime operation.

Pune | 06 February, 2026 – In a significant crackdown on illegal arms, Pune City Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell Team-2 successfully apprehended two notorious criminals in Shivajinagar, recovering four country-made pistols and five live cartridges. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, underscores the city police’s intensified efforts to curb arms trafficking and prevent potential criminal activities. According to police sources, the operation was carried out following detailed intelligence gathering and routine crime-prevention patrolling within Pune Police Commissionerate limits. Constables Surendra Jagdale and Prashant Shinde received information that a police-listed accused, Rohit Durgesh Dharmadhikari, was expected near Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk, carrying a firearm.

Acting swiftly, the police laid a strategic trap and successfully detained Rohit Durgesh Dharmadhikari (24), a resident of Old Sangvi, along with his associate Abhishek Raju Tenkel (23) from Shivajinagar. Both individuals have prior criminal records and are currently in custody for further interrogation. During a search conducted in accordance with legal procedures, police recovered four iron, country-made, silver-colored pistols with magazines, valued at approximately ₹1.60 lakh. In addition, five live KF 7.65 mm cartridges, worth around ₹4,000, were seized. The total value of confiscated arms is estimated at ₹1.64 lakh.

Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to trace the origin of the weapons and determine whether the accused were planning any imminent criminal activity in Pune. Senior officers of Pune City Police supervised the operation, carried out meticulously by the Crime Branch’s Extortion Cell Team-2. This arrest highlights the city police’s proactive approach in identifying and neutralizing threats before they escalate into violent crimes. A senior officer remarked, “Operations like these are crucial for maintaining law and order in Pune. By intercepting illegal arms and apprehending repeat offenders, we are sending a strong message that criminal activities will not be tolerated.”

Pune has witnessed a rise in localized criminal activity, with incidents involving illegal firearms being a significant concern. Similar operations in the past have led to the dismantling of networks supplying illegal weapons in the region.
