Pune | 10 February 2026 – Manjusha Nagpure has been elected unopposed as the new Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), marking a fresh chapter in the city’s governance. With her election, Pune now has a civic head after a prolonged period, following the completion of the previous mayoral term. The decision by other political groups to withdraw from the contest paved the way for her unanimous appointment.

Nagpure, 46, is a three-time corporator, representing the Suncity–Manikbaug ward. She first entered municipal politics in 2012 and has consistently won elections since, demonstrating strong public support and deep engagement with her constituency. Her repeated victories reflect both her organisational experience and her connection with local residents.

Educationally, Nagpure holds a postgraduate degree in Business Management (MBA) and previously worked in the IT sector before fully dedicating herself to civic leadership. Observers note that her professional and academic background equips her with unique skills for addressing Pune’s complex urban challenges.

Her leadership roots are strengthened by long-standing organisational experience, which has helped her build a robust grassroots network. This background has been cited as one reason she was elected without opposition, with many viewing her as a capable and prepared civic leader.

In her first address as Mayor, Nagpure outlined several priorities. She emphasised improving traffic management, upgrading public transport services, and widening key roads to ease congestion. Strengthening civic infrastructure and enhancing service delivery in areas such as waste management, healthcare, and education are also central to her agenda.

Nagpure has previously served on multiple municipal committees, including planning, law, audit, and welfare, giving her in-depth knowledge of civic administration. She has been particularly active in committees focusing on women’s and children’s welfare, highlighting her commitment to inclusive development.

Pune faces challenges such as flooding in low-lying areas, uneven infrastructure development, and the need for improved health and education services. The new Mayor has expressed her support for initiatives like riverbank strengthening and upgrades to civic hospitals, alongside promoting digital learning tools in municipal schools.

Her election reflects both continuity and change: continuity in terms of experienced leadership, and change in her professional and organisational approach to civic governance. As she assumes office, residents and civic observers will be watching closely to see how her administration tackles urban mobility, public service delivery, and sustainable development.

In conclusion, Manjusha Nagpure’s rise to Pune Mayor brings a blend of experience, organisational discipline, and a clear civic vision. Her tenure is expected to focus on practical solutions for residents while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of city governance.
