Pune Traffic Police announce diversions in Peth areas on April 23 for Nachnichi Bhakri procession; routes, timings, and alternatives detailed.

Pune, April 23, 2026: If you’re planning to travel through central Pune this evening, expect delays and route changes. The Pune City Traffic Police has announced temporary diversions across several Peth areas to manage crowd movement during the traditional “Nachnichi Bhakri” procession.

According to officials, the traffic restrictions will be in force from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, primarily within the Faraskhana traffic division limits.

The procession will begin from Kalbhairavnath Mandir and conclude at Chota Sheikh Sallah Dargah, passing through multiple busy inner-city roads. Authorities anticipate a large turnout of devotees, which is why precautionary diversions have been put in place.

Key Areas & Procession Route

The route includes several crowded stretches such as Trimurti Chowk, Yojna Bakery Chowk, Devjibaba Chowk, Phadke Haud Chowk, Vyavahar Ali, Bhoi Ali, and adjoining lanes. These areas are expected to witness heavy pedestrian movement and restricted vehicular access during the procession hours.

Major Traffic Changes You Should Know

  • Vehicles heading toward Phadke Haud via Kumbharves Chowk will be stopped and diverted.
  • Traffic from Shivaji Road towards Ganesh Road and Daruwala Pul will face restrictions.
  • Routes from Laxmi Road towards Pavale Chowk will be blocked temporarily.
  • Several PMPML buses and private vehicles will be rerouted through alternate internal roads.

Alternative routes have been suggested via Gadgil Putala, Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk, Narpatgiri Chowk, and Apollo Talkies to ease movement.

Emergency Services Exempt

The police have clarified that essential services such as ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, and emergency responders will not be affected by these restrictions.

Advisory for Commuters

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel through Peth areas during the evening hours and use alternative routes wherever possible. Given the narrow lanes and dense population in these parts of Pune, even minor disruptions can lead to significant congestion.

Regular commuters, especially office-goers and delivery services, are advised to plan their journeys in advance or opt for public transport where feasible.

With cultural traditions and public convenience needing to coexist, temporary diversions like these are essential. Staying informed and planning ahead can help Pune residents avoid getting stuck in traffic today.
