Pune Trains See Festive Rush as Reservations Touch 198%; Special Services Planned

Pune Trains Face Festive Rush as Reservations Touch 198%; Special Services Announced
Pune trains face festive-season demand, with reservations touching 198% on some services as Central Railway plans additional special-train trips.
PUNE: Railway passengers travelling from Pune to northern and eastern India are facing increased demand ahead of the festive season, with reservation levels reportedly reaching 198% on some train services.
Data covering train services up to September 30 indicates that 106 trains operating to and from Pune accounted for 1,449 trips, carrying approximately 6.7 lakh passengers and generating an estimated ₹76.8 crore in ticket revenue.
Among the high-demand services, the Pune–Jammu Tawi Jhelum Express recorded an average reservation level of 123%, with a peak of 198% on a particular day. The Pune–Supaul Express recorded an average reservation level of 131% across 29 trips scheduled in November, reaching 167% on one day. The Pune–Danapur special train also reported substantial demand, with an average reservation level of 125% and a peak of 181%.
Other long-distance services, including the Azad Hind Express towards Howrah and the Kanyakumari Express, have also recorded strong passenger demand.
To provide additional travel options, Central Railway’s Pune division has planned special train services during the festive period. Seven special trains are scheduled to operate a combined 216 trips between October and November 2026, connecting passengers with destinations including Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City, Nagpur and New Amravati.
The additional services are intended to accommodate passengers travelling for festivals such as Diwali and Chhath Puja. Train schedules and operating dates vary by route, so passengers should check the latest details before making travel arrangements.
Reservation levels above 100% can reflect waiting-list demand and should not be interpreted as confirmation that every passenger has a berth. Travellers are advised to check their PNR status and ticket conditions before departure.
With festive travel demand remaining high on several long-distance routes, passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and use official railway booking and enquiry services to check seat availability, schedules and special-train updates.
