In Pune,The Viman Nagar police have arrested a nineteen-year-old suspect who, along with his accomplices, lured a youth under the pretext of a cryptocurrency transaction before assaulting and robbing him.

May 18, 2026 | Pune: In a striking instance of digital-age baiting turning into physical coercion, the Viman Nagar police division has arrested a primary suspect involved in luring a local youth under the false pretext of facilitating a cryptocurrency deal, only to brutally assault and rob him of his valuables. Law enforcement officials have successfully recovered looted assets, including hard cash, premium mobile communication devices, and a two-wheeler, cumulative values of which are estimated around ₹1,65,940.

The complainant and his maternal cousin were systematically targeted by the accused and his larger syndicate, who instructed the victims to assemble at a pre-designated spot near the Zircon Society landmark situated in the affluent Viman Nagar commercial corridor.

The arrested individual has been formally identified as Pranay Amar Buwa, aged 19, a resident of the Dhanori area within Vishrantwadi. According to official police records, the illicit operation took place on May 11 within the administrative jurisdiction of the Viman Nagar police station

Upon arrival, the victims were cornered by the gang, subjected to severe physical assault, and stripped of ₹1,40,000 in liquid cash along with two mobile devices and a Honda Activa scooter. Following a formal criminal registration, an analytical investigation launched by specialized tracking squads resulted in the swift interception of Buwa. Detectives recovered ₹25,940 of the stolen cash reserves, a high-end mobile phone valued at ₹90,000, and the two-wheeler valued at ₹50,000. Under the administrative supervision of Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav and Inspector Mahesh Bolke, Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod is heading the operational grid to track down the remaining fugitives.
