A proposal has been submitted to set up an independent stamp duty and registration office in Pimpri-Chinchwad, aiming to reduce dependency on Pune and simplify property-related processes.

Pune | 25 March, 2026:
In a move aimed at improving administrative access for residents, a proposal has been put forward to establish a separate stamp duty and registration office in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the need for citizens to travel to Pune for various property-related services.

The proposal was raised by local MLA Shankar Jagtap, who recently met Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and formally requested the creation of an independent office for the rapidly growing urban region. The minister has reportedly responded positively, increasing the likelihood of the proposal moving forward.

Pimpri-Chinchwad has witnessed rapid urbanisation over the years, emerging as a major industrial and residential hub in the Pune metropolitan region. Despite generating substantial revenue through stamp duty collections, residents still depend heavily on Pune-based offices for several post-registration services.

Currently, citizens from areas such as Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari, Wakad, Thergaon, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar, Sangvi, Akurdi, and Ravet are required to travel to Pune for tasks including stamp duty refunds, document corrections, and filing appeals. This often leads to delays, increased travel time, and inconvenience, particularly for senior citizens and daily wage earners.

Although multiple sub-registrar offices operate within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, their administrative control remains centralized in Pune. This centralized structure has been cited as a key reason for procedural delays and inefficiencies in service delivery.

Experts point out that with the rising number of property transactions in the region, decentralisation of such services has become necessary. Recent data indicates that Pune continues to generate significant revenue through property registrations and stamp duty collections, highlighting the growing demand for efficient infrastructure and administrative support.

The proposed independent office is expected to streamline processes, reduce workload on Pune offices, and provide quicker resolution of citizen queries. It would also align with broader governance efforts to decentralize public services and bring them closer to residents.

If approved, the move could mark a major step toward improving ease of doing property transactions in Pimpri-Chinchwad, benefiting homebuyers, developers, and legal professionals alike.

Officials are now awaiting further decisions from the state government, which will determine the timeline and execution of the proposal.
