New Delhi | March 25, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday warned that the continuation of global conflict, particularly in West Asia, could have serious consequences for India, affecting trade routes, energy supplies, and overall economic stability. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he emphasized that the coming period would be a crucial test for the country. Modi highlighted that disruptions caused by the conflict have already begun impacting the supply of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers. He noted that the ongoing crisis has intensified the global energy situation, posing significant challenges for India’s energy security and inflation management.

To address these concerns, the government has constituted seven new empowered groups to ensure smooth functioning of supply chains and to implement both immediate and long-term measures. These groups will focus on key sectors including fuel supply, fertilizers, logistics, and price stability. Reiterating India’s commitment to peace, Modi said that the voice of unity, dialogue, and diplomacy must resonate globally. He stressed that coordinated efforts between the Centre and states would be essential, drawing parallels with the collective response witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister also assured that India is actively diversifying its sources of crude oil and gas procurement to maintain steady supplies. Highlighting strategic preparedness, he stated that over the past decade, India has developed strategic petroleum reserves with a capacity of approximately 5.3 million metric tonnes. He urged citizens to remain calm and resilient in the face of emerging challenges, underlining that the government is working with a structured strategy to mitigate short-term, medium-term, and long-term impacts of the crisis.
