Reliance Jio adds 1.57 lakh new customers in Maharashtra in September, leading the telecom market. Airtel and Vodafone Idea follow, according to TRAI data.

Pune, October 30, 2025 – Reliance Jio has once again emerged as the top telecom operator in Maharashtra, registering around 1.57 lakh new customers in September, according to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This marks a strong month of growth for the company, reaffirming its dominance in one of India’s largest telecom markets.

Alongside Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea also saw moderate growth during the same period. Airtel added approximately 52,255 new subscribers, while Vodafone Idea gained around 50,504. Despite the competition, Jio continues to hold a significant lead in both mobile and broadband categories, driven by its expanding network coverage and affordable service bundles.

TRAI’s data also highlights Jio’s strong performance in the fixed wireless access segment through its Jio AirFiber service. In Maharashtra, Jio recorded more than 5.5 lakh active users in this category, while Airtel stood at just over two lakh. This growing gap underlines Jio’s success in capturing not just mobile users but also home and small business broadband customers.

Industry experts attribute this steady growth to Jio’s aggressive rollout of 5G infrastructure and consistent expansion in rural areas where demand for reliable internet connectivity has surged. The company’s strategy of offering bundled digital services—such as OTT access, cloud storage, and home Wi-Fi solutions—has also helped strengthen customer loyalty.

For consumers, this competition among telecom providers has led to better connectivity, improved service quality, and more affordable data plans. However, for rival operators, it signals the need to innovate and diversify beyond standard mobile offerings to retain their market share.

The overall telecom landscape in Maharashtra remains dynamic, with digital adoption and data consumption on a sharp rise. Jio’s recent performance suggests it will continue to lead the state’s telecom sector in the coming months, particularly as it scales its broadband and wireless infrastructure further into semi-urban and rural regions.

As of now, Jio’s growth trajectory positions it well ahead of competitors, and analysts believe that its focus on high-speed broadband and end-to-end digital integration could define the next phase of Maharashtra’s telecom revolution.
