Minister Sanjay Shirsat criticized Uddhav Thackeray’s Hambarda Morcha in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, stating that no farmers or common citizens were present and questioned the purpose of the rally.
Latur | October 11, 2025 — Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat openly criticized the Hambarda Morcha organized by the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. According to Shirsat, the rally, which was meant to represent the concerns of farmers, failed to include even a single farmer or common citizen.
Speaking in Latur, Shirsat stated, “The Hambarda Morcha was completely unsuccessful. Not a single farmer or ordinary person attended. The rally appears to have been staged only by Thackeray’s group to display activity, rather than addressing real issues.” He added, “This is the time to wipe the tears of farmers, understand their struggles, and provide help. What is the purpose of holding a rally if it does not serve them?”
Shirsat also expressed concern over the financial aid provided to farmers, saying, “The central government has announced a package worth ₹31,628 crore. We are not satisfied with this support. We need additional assistance for farmers directly from the central government.”
Regarding Uddhav Thackeray’s Hambarda Morcha, Shirsat noted, “We also organized a Hambarda in 2022, and since then, they have been criticizing without taking meaningful action. This rally seems more for Thackeray’s political image than for the farmers themselves.”
His remarks have intensified political debates in the state, with accusations and counter-accusations between opposition and ruling parties regarding the real intention behind the Hambarda Morcha. While the Thackeray group claims the rally was to support farmers, Shirsat’s criticism has raised questions about its objectives and effectiveness.
The controversy highlights the ongoing tension in Maharashtra politics, especially concerning farmer welfare and political posturing by major parties ahead of upcoming local and civic elections.
