Satara | May 15, 2026: The historic city of Satara is set to host the legendary Hind Kesari wrestling tournament starting today. For this “Mahakumbh of wrestling,” a unique and elite arena has been prepared at the Chhatrapati Shahu District Sports Complex. The highlight of this preparation is the soil of the pit, which has been treated with over 200 liters of oil and ghee to create a soft, injury-resistant surface for the athletes.

Renowned wrestlers from across the nation arrived in Satara late Thursday night to participate in the event. Traditional trainers and volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare the red soil, mixing it with oil, ghee, lemon, and turmeric to ensure it remains hygienic, flexible, and conducive to high-intensity bouts. This meticulous preparation aims to enhance the performance of the grapplers while preventing skin abrasions and muscle injuries during the matches.
Registration and weighing procedures for the wrestlers commenced this morning, and the live action is expected to begin later this afternoon. Local authorities have ensured comprehensive facilities for both spectators and participants, marking this as a milestone event in Satara’s sporting history. The entire wrestling community now waits with bated breath to see who will claim the prestigious Hind Kesari mace in this “Shahi Akhada.”
