Self-Styled Godman Ashok Kharat Sent to Judicial Custody in Nashik Case

A Nashik court has remanded self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat to judicial custody in a separate case, as investigations deepen into multiple s including fraud and exploitation.

April 9, 2026 | Nashik In a significant development in the high-profile case, a Nashik district court has remanded self-styled godman Ashok Kharat to judicial custody in connection with another registered offence. The court has directed that he be produced again on Thursday for further proceedings. Earlier, the court had granted police custody of the accused until April 8. Following the completion of that period, Kharat was produced before the court via video conferencing on Wednesday, citing security concerns. The hearing was conducted in the court of Judge B. N. Ichpurani.

During the proceedings, the prosecution, represented by Shailendra Bagde, presented details of an additional case registered against the accused. Defence counsel Sachin Bhate and investigating officer Kiran Kumar Suryavanshi were also present. The court examined the accused regarding the fresh charges before ordering judicial custody. Authorities have indicated that the number of cases against Kharat continues to rise, with around 12 cases already registered and at least 11 more complaints currently under review. The allegations against him include cheating, intimidation, and serious charges of sexual exploitation under the pretext of spiritual healing, rituals, and energy-based practices.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting an in-depth probe into the matter, focusing on the accused’s financial transactions and network of associates. Investigators are also examining large-scale monetary dealings in the Shirdi region, which are suspected to run into crores of rupees. Officials stated that several individuals linked to Kharat are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. More revelations are expected as authorities continue to scrutinize financial records and victim testimonies. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the gravity of the allegations and the growing number of complainants. Law enforcement agencies have assured strict action as the investigation progresses.
