Pune’s Sinhagad Road flyover will be trimmed at 66 points to make room for metro pillars. Each side’s width will shrink by about one metre, likely disrupting traffic during construction.

Pune | December 3, 2025: Work on the newly approved metro corridor has triggered fresh changes to the recently built flyover on Sinhagad Road. Civic authorities have announced that, to accommodate the upcoming metro line, the flyover will be cut at 66 locations so that metro pillars can be installed.

As a result, the width of the flyover lanes on each side will be reduced from the present 7.324 metres to 6.324 metres. Essentially, a metre will be trimmed from both sides. Officials say this reduction was foreseen during the flyover’s design, keeping future metro work in mind.

The metro alignment — part of the new corridor connecting areas like Khadakwasla, Hadapsar, Kharadi and beyond — has been sanctioned by higher authorities. While the flyover had earlier helped ease long-standing traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, its modification is expected to create some temporary inconvenience.

Authorities assure that despite the narrowing, two traffic lanes on both sides of the flyover will remain open even during the pillar construction phase. Drivers and commuters are being warned about possible slowdowns, especially during peak hours, and are advised to consider alternate routes if possible.

The project reflects a balancing act, where short-term disruption is being accepted for a long-term upgrade in urban mobility. Once the metro pillars and tracks are in place, the hope is that the larger public — using metro + road — will benefit from smoother transit and reduced traffic pressure on Sinhagad Road.
