Voting for 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats begins today with 12,316 booths, 6,042 seats, tight security, and full administrative readiness. Results will be declared tomorrow amid ongoing legal scrutiny of the revised schedule.

Maharashtra | December 3, 2025: Voting for Nagar Panchayat and municipal council elections across Maharashtra begins this morning at 7:30 am, with the entire administrative system placed on alert. A total of 264 bodies will go to polls, where voters will elect 264 chairpersons and 6,042 members. Polls will continue till 5:30 pm, and counting will take place the next day.

Confusion over voter lists and the last-minute postponement of elections in some areas had created uncertainty, but the State Election Commission has confirmed readiness across all polling stations. The Commission informed the Bombay High Court that it would present its stand on declaring results on December 21 for areas covered under the revised schedule, after earlier announcing December 3 as the counting date.

For today’s voting, 12,316 polling stations have been set up, supported by 62,108 election staff. Police have deployed heavy security to ensure smooth voting across semi-urban regions where political competition is intense after a gap of nearly a decade.

Voters in municipalities will cast three to four votes, since wards have multiple seats and the chairperson will also be elected directly. Nagar Panchayat voters will cast two votes.

The Commission has added a double-star mark (**) against names suspected to be duplicates in voter rolls. Those marked will have to confirm the booth where they intend to vote, preventing multiple voting. A dedicated website helps voters search their names and booth details using their EPIC number.

Mobile phones are banned inside polling stations, though a room may be provided outside to deposit them. Facilities such as wheelchairs, shade, drinking water, toilets, and priority access have been arranged for senior citizens, pregnant women, mothers with infants, and persons with disabilities. Some centres have been designated as Pink Polling Stations, managed entirely by women staff.
