An 18-year-old was accused in Pune for allegedly cheating students by promising access to leaked Maharashtra board exam question papers through Telegram and collecting money before blocking victims
Pune | March 13, 2026: An 18-year-old youth has been accused by Pune Police for allegedly cheating students by falsely claiming he could provide leaked question papers for the Maharashtra State Board examinations through Telegram.
According to police officials, the accused created a Telegram channel and circulated messages promising access to upcoming Maharashtra board exam papers in advance. He reportedly claimed to have inside sources and assured students that he could deliver authentic question papers before the examinations began.
Investigators said several students, anxious about the exams, transferred money to the accused after he demanded payments in exchange for the supposed leaked papers. However, after receiving the money, the youth allegedly blocked the students and disappeared from the platform.

The fraud came to light when some students realized they had been cheated and approached the police. Following a complaint, a case was registered at the Shivajinagar Police Station in Pune.
Police launched an investigation and traced the digital trail linked to the Telegram account. Officials were eventually able to identify and arrest the accused.

During questioning, the youth allegedly admitted to creating a fake narrative about the paper leak in order to lure students and make quick money. Police are now examining whether more students across the state may have fallen victim to the scam.
Authorities have also urged students and parents to remain cautious and avoid believing claims of exam paper leaks circulated on social media platforms.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to determine the total amount of money involved in the fraud.
