Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has alleged that the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra was formed through large-scale vote theft, accusing the Election Commission of India of acting in support of the ruling alliance. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur ahead of a major opposition protest in Mumbai, Wadettiwar said the irregularities in the voter list and electoral rolls are now clear to the public, and the EC’s silence shows its bias.
He said the government’s victory was not earned through fair elections but by manipulating voter data and turning a blind eye to fraudulent entries. According to him, there are constituencies where dozens of votes are registered under the same address, and complaints about duplicate or missing voter names have been ignored. Wadettiwar claimed that the EC’s failure to act despite evidence of irregularities proves that it is functioning as “an ally of the government.”
He warned that if the Election Commission does not take immediate steps to clean the voter rolls and ensure transparency, public trust in the democratic process will collapse. The Congress leader further added that the opposition will continue its agitation through the “Satyacha Morcha” in Mumbai until corrective measures are implemented.
Wadettiwar’s statement adds to growing concerns among opposition parties about the credibility of Maharashtra’s electoral process. Allegations of fake voters, unverified Aadhaar linkages, and sudden constituency transfers have already raised questions about electoral fairness. The opposition has demanded an independent audit of the rolls and accountability from the Election Commission.
As the issue gains traction, political observers say the controversy could escalate ahead of the next state and national elections. The Election Commission has yet to respond to the claims, but pressure is mounting for it to demonstrate impartiality and restore confidence in the voting system.
