Opposition leaders in Amravati and Chalisgaon allege that names of several voters have been omitted from official electoral rolls, raising concerns ahead of local body elections.

Mumbai | October 15, 2025 — Ahead of local body elections in Maharashtra, confusion over voter lists has emerged in Amravati and Chalisgaon. In Amravati’s Anjangaon taluka, opposition leaders claim that names from 19 villages have been omitted from the electoral rolls, alleging that this may reduce voter turnout for certain parties.

In Chalisgaon, more than 3,000 citizens have raised objections to draft voter lists, noting discrepancies including instances where the same name appears in multiple wards. These anomalies have prompted concerns over the accuracy of the rolls and potential manipulation.

Election officials have acknowledged the complaints, attributing some errors to technical issues during the uploading of voter data. Authorities have assured that corrections will be made after verifying the objections raised by citizens.

Voters are advised to verify their names through the official Maharashtra State Election Commission portal to ensure they are correctly listed in the upcoming local elections. The portal provides a facility for checking, objecting, and correcting voter information to prevent issues on polling day.

The situation highlights the importance of accurate voter lists for ensuring free and fair elections. Authorities continue to monitor and address discrepancies to maintain trust in the electoral process, especially as civic polls approach in the state.
