Woman Killed, Three Injured in Collision Between Two Bikes on Pune Highway

A 41-year-old woman died and three others were seriously injured after two motorcycles collided at high speed on the Bhumbkar Bridge stretch of the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway in Pune.

Pune, April 11, 2026 A fatal road accident on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway near the Nanded-Ambegaon area claimed the life of a 41-year-old woman and left three others critically injured after a collision between two motorcycles on the Bhumbkar Bridge. The deceased has been identified as Amaraja Gopal Hande, a resident of Gokulnagar in Warje, Pune. Her two children, 17-year-old Asmita Hande and 10-year-old Ayush Hande, were seriously injured in the crash. The rider of the second motorcycle, identified as 22-year-old Sahil Sunil Kawade from Jambhulwadi in Ambegaon, also sustained severe injuries.

According to police officials, the accident occurred on Thursday evening around 7:30 pm when the family was travelling by motorcycle from Warje towards Nanded-Ambegaon to visit relatives near the Swaminarayan temple area. A speeding Pulsar motorcycle reportedly approached from behind and collided violently with their vehicle, resulting in the fatal crash. Following the incident, personnel from Nanded police station, including senior inspector Asaram Shete and assistant inspector Sameer Chavan, rushed to the spot along with other officers. The injured were immediately shifted to Bharati Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Amaraja Hande succumbed to her injuries at Silver Birch Hospital during treatment.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including overspeeding and possible negligence. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine the exact sequence of events. Officials have once again urged motorists to follow speed regulations and exercise caution on busy highway stretches, especially on accident-prone zones like the Bhumbkar Bridge area, which has witnessed multiple incidents in the past.
