PMC Clears Baner Road Widening Project, Promises Fair Compensation for Landowners
PMC greenlights Baner Road widening to ease congestion; landowners assured of fair compensation under legal norms.
Pune, October 04, 2025: Residents in the Baner–Balewadi area may soon see relief from chronic traffic jams, as the city’s civic body has officially cleared plans to widen key road stretches near major congestion points. Baner, which has seen rapid housing and commercial growth over the past decade, has suffered from narrow internal roads failing to accommodate rising traffic—and a notorious choke point near the Hotel Pancard Club and Dhanakude Vasti has become a daily source of gridlock. After repeated public complaints, political leaders and senior civic officials inspected the site and determined that widening the road is the only viable solution.
To accomplish this, land acquisition is required, and the administration has begun engagement with original landowners. They have been assured of fair compensation and that the process will adhere closely to principles of transparency, legal compliance, and citizen welfare. Among those present at the inspection were engineering and roads department officials, solid waste, water supply, and other civic wings, signaling wide support and coordination across departments for the project.
Once the widening is complete, the improved road will provide a more direct connection to the Mumbai–Bengaluru National Highway, which is expected to greatly ease the flow for thousands of commuters who currently face long delays. Local residents and housing societies welcomed the move, seeing it as a landmark step toward improving infrastructure in a rapidly developing zone. One local leader commented that only when roads are wide and safe can the benefits of development be fully realized.
The administration emphasized that during the acquisition process, landowners will be treated with fairness, including compensating them appropriately for affected property. Officials clarified that they will follow all legal norms, ensuring full disclosure of valuations, engaging with landowners directly, and avoiding undue delays. The project is being viewed by many as a much-needed intervention that balances civic growth with people’s rights.
