MSRTC launches monthly and quarterly passes for electric buses, aiming to make commuting cheaper, convenient, and eco-friendly. The scheme covers various buses and encourages sustainable travel across Maharashtra.
Mumbai| October 10, 2025: In a bid to promote sustainable commuting, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has introduced monthly and quarterly pass schemes for its electric bus services. Announced by Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik, the initiative is designed to provide convenience and cost savings for daily passengers while encouraging the use of eco-friendly public transport.
The passes are available for 9-metre and 12-metre e-buses as well as e-Shivai services, with e-Shivaneri excluded. Under the scheme, a 30-day monthly pass is priced at the return fare of 20 days, while a 90-day quarterly pass is available at the return fare of 60 days. Higher-class pass holders have the flexibility to travel in either ordinary or premium buses, though they must pay the fare difference if choosing a higher-class service.

MSRTC currently operates 448 electric buses under its e-bus project and 50 buses under the Shivai project, with plans to further expand the fleet in coming months. According to Sarnaik, the scheme is aimed at making daily travel both economical and comfortable while fostering a shift towards environmentally sustainable transport.
The move is expected to benefit regular commuters, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute to Maharashtra’s green transport goals. With electric mobility gaining momentum, MSRTC’s initiative could set a benchmark for other state transport corporations across India.
