Pune Police Solve Gold Mangalsutra Theft Case in 24 Hours; Two Gujarat Women Arrested in Saswad

Ambegaon Police in Pune cracked a gold theft case within 24 hours, arresting two women from Gujarat who duped a local woman in Katraj by swapping her mangalsutra. The stolen jewellery worth ₹1.02 lakh was recovered.

Pune, October 15, 2025 :- The Ambegaon Police in Pune successfully solved a case of gold theft within just 24 hours, arresting two women from Gujarat who deceived a local resident and fled with her mangalsutra. The incident took place on the afternoon of October 15 near Om Kirana Store, beside Sai Mitra Mandal Ganpati Temple, Santosh Nagar, Katraj.

According to the police report, the accused women approached the complainant and offered her a yellow metal ornament, falsely claiming it was gold and heavier than her own mangalsutra. Gaining her trust, they exchanged the ornaments and fled with the original gold jewellery. The stolen mangalsutra, weighing around eight grams and valued at ₹1.02 lakh, was later recovered by the police.

The case was registered under IPC 2023 Sections 318(4) and 3(5) at Ambegaon Police Station (Crime No. 268/2025). Following the complaint, investigators examined over 50 CCTV cameras along the Katraj–Saswad route and tracked the suspects’ movements toward Saswad. Acting on a specific tip-off received by constable Pramod Bhosale, a police team raided the suspects’ rented home and took them into custody.

The arrested women have been identified as Asha Ben Mangabhai Sarvaiya (50) and Sonu Ben Akashbhai Sarvaiya (30), both originally from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and currently residing near Old Kodit Road, Saswad. The recovery of the mangalsutra confirmed their involvement in the crime.

The investigation was led by PSI Shailendra Sathe under the supervision of senior officers including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner Milind Mohite, Assistant Commissioner Rahul Aware, and Senior Inspector Sharad Jhine of Ambegaon Police Station.

The quick resolution was made possible through coordinated efforts by officers and constables including Mohan Kalamkar, Gajanan Chormale, Chetan Gore, Hanmant Masal, Nilesh Jamdade, Dhanaji Dhotre, Sachin Gade, Dnyaneshwar Chitte, Ajay Kamthe, Shivaji Patole, Subhash More, Harish Gaikwad, Rakesh Tekawade, and woman constable Diksha More.

Police officials praised the team’s swift action, saying the case was an example of effective surveillance and community cooperation. They urged citizens to remain cautious about fraudulent gold exchange schemes and to immediately report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

With both suspects now in custody and the stolen gold recovered, the case highlights the efficiency of Pune Police in tackling theft crimes and maintaining public trust.
