Khadak Police Arrest Notorious Criminal Wanted for Attempted Murder After 1.5 Years on the Run
Pune’s Khadak Police arrested a notorious criminal, Azim alias Palla Salim Shaikh, wanted for attempted murder and several other serious crimes.
Pune,October 29, 2025 – In a major breakthrough, Khadak Police in Pune have successfully apprehended a wanted criminal who had been absconding for nearly one and a half years. The accused, identified as Azim alias Palla Salim Shaikh (age 24, resident of 54 H.P. Lohiyanagar, Pune), was wanted in multiple serious cases, including attempt to murder, housebreaking, and assault.
The arrest was made under Crime Register No. 223/2024, which includes charges under Sections 109, 115(2), 131, 118(1), 189(2), 191(2), 190 of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Arms Act (Section 4(25)) and the Maharashtra Police Act (Sections 30(9)(3), 135).
According to the police, Shaikh had been evading arrest since the case was registered and had changed his identity to live secretly in the Kondhwa area of Pune. Acting on a specific tip-off from an informant, police constables Ashish Chavan and Irfan Nadaf traced his location. Upon verification, they immediately conducted a raid and successfully detained the accused on October 27, 2025.
Further investigation revealed that Shaikh is a habitual offender with six serious criminal cases registered against him across different police stations in Pune city. His past record includes charges related to attempted murder, assault, and burglary.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region) Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krishikesh Rawal, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Faraskhana Division) Sainath Thombre. The team was led by Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan of Khadak Police Station, with support from Police Inspectors (Crime) Sharmila Sutar and Manojkumar Londhe, and the Surveillance Squad comprising PSI Mahendra Kamble, and constables Ashish Chavan and Irfan Nadaf.
Police officials stated that the accused had been operating under a false identity to avoid detection and had shifted locations frequently within the city. The surveillance team kept a close watch on his known associates and finally zeroed in on his hideout after weeks of monitoring.
Authorities commended the Khadak Police team for their diligent efforts and coordination, which led to the successful arrest. The accused has now been taken into custody, and further interrogation is underway to determine his involvement in other unsolved cases in Pune.
