President Droupadi Murmu created history on Monday after flying in a Rafale fighter jet from the Ambala Airbase. Accompanying her was Wing Commander Shivangi Singh, India’s only woman Rafale pilot, marking a proud moment for the Indian Air Force and the nation.
The event held special significance following Pakistan’s earlier false claim that Shivangi Singh had been captured during “Operation Sindoor.” The Indian government had immediately clarified that the reports were completely baseless. The latest visuals of President Murmu and Wing Commander Singh together have now effectively put an end to those rumours, reinforcing the truth and confidence in India’s defense forces.
Shivangi Singh, a native of Varanasi, completed her graduation from Banaras Hindu University before joining the Indian Air Force. She initially flew the MiG-21 Bison aircraft before becoming part of the Rafale squadron. Known for her precision and courage, she is now one of India’s most accomplished women fighter pilots and a role model for aspiring aviators.
The President’s flight in the Rafale jet symbolizes both the empowerment of women in India’s armed forces and the nation’s advancing defense capabilities. The Rafale fleet has significantly boosted India’s air power, and the presence of women officers like Shivangi Singh underscores the country’s progress toward gender equality in uniformed services.
President Murmu’s flight also served as a message of trust and pride in India’s air warriors. The event was witnessed by senior defense officials, Air Force personnel, and engineers at Ambala Airbase, who expressed immense pride in being part of a historic occasion.
This milestone not only enhances the morale of the Indian Air Force but also inspires a new generation of women to pursue careers in defense and aviation. With leaders like President Murmu and officers like Shivangi Singh at the forefront, India continues to set an example of courage, inclusion, and national strength.
