An IT engineer couple from Pune sold their England property to fund treatment for their daughters. They allege a godman duped them and cheated them out of ₹14 crores.
Pune | November 5, 2025: A shocking case of alleged fraud has surfaced involving a couple who claim they were cheated of ₹14 crore by a so-called “godman” or spiritual healer, locally referred to as Bhondu Baba.
According to the complaint, the victim is an IT engineer based in Pune, who, together with his spouse, sold their house and farmhouse in England in order to fund treatment for their daughters, who suffer from a congenital illness.
They trusted promises made by a woman named Vedika Pāndharpūrkar and the “Bhondu Baba” that the treatment or healing would help their daughters recover. Under that belief, they transferred large sums of money to them.
Eventually, the couple found they had been deceived. The godman allegedly made false assurances in the name of divine power. They lost their entire investment—amounting to ₹14 crore.
The case has alarmed residents in Pune, especially because the victims are educated professionals who trusted the spiritual healer with something as personal as their children’s health. The fraud raises questions about regulation of unverified religious / spiritual healers who promise miraculous cures.
Police action is expected to follow. The complaint has put a spotlight on how vulnerable people can be exploited when seeking medical help through unofficial or faith-based channels. Authorities may soon investigate whether this is an isolated incident or part of a larger pattern of spiritual-healer fraud cases.
