New Delhi | November 07, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted India’s Women’s Cricket Team at his official residence on November 5 to congratulate them on their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory.
Modi lauded the squad’s resilience and teamwork as they claimed their first-ever title with a 52-run win over South Africa in the final held at Navi Mumbai. He described the win as a “spectacular” moment that will motivate future champions across the country.
Highlights of the felicitation included Modi holding the World Cup trophy in his hands and receiving a special jersey from the players. The meeting, held at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, also included messages urging the team to promote fitness and youth participation in sports.

Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and standout player Smriti Mandhana were among those honored during the ceremony. Modi encouraged them to carry their on-field spirit into off-field initiatives, like Fit India.
The felicitation has been seen as a symbolic moment for Indian women’s sports — not only celebrating their victory but elevating visibility for women athletes. Supporters hailed the Prime Minister’s gesture as a sign that policy and recognition might now catch up with performance on the field.
