To ease congestion on the popular Ghatkopar-Versova corridor, Metro Line 1 will soon expand its trains from four to six coaches by adding two new coaches, says Mumbai Metro One.

Mumbai | November 07  2025: Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd (MMOPL) is preparing to expand its train configurations on the highly used Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar corridor by adding two additional coaches to each rake, moving from the current four to six coaches.

With ridership rising sharply along this route, the change has been prompted by increasing commuter pressure and overcrowding during peak hours.

Under the plan, MMOPL will first secure approval for purchasing new coaches before updating the train sets.

Once implemented, this expansion would improve capacity on Metro Line 1 significantly. It also reflects the broader push by authorities to adapt infrastructure to rising demand.

Commuters have long complained that the current four-coach configuration is crowded and insufficient. With six coaches per train, the corridor is expected to better accommodate rush-hour traffic without increasing wait times or overcrowding conditions.

Officials say financial and logistical approvals are in process, and once granted, the new coaches will be placed into service within the coming months.
