Navi Mumbai Coastal Road Project Marks 60% Completion, Fortifying Link Between Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu) and Navi Mumbai International Airport
The 7‑km, six‑lane Ulwe Coastal Road in Navi Mumbai has reached 60% physical progress, connecting Atal Setu to the new airport and easing traffic on major arterial roads.
Navi Mumbai | November 08, 2025: The massive infrastructure project known as the Ulwe Coastal Road, designed to link the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (“Atal Setu”) with the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), has hit a significant milestone — 60 per cent of the work has been completed, according to the planning agency City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
The corridor spans around 7 kilometres, comprising 5.80 km of coastal road and a 0.90 km Airport Link Road (ALR). Once finished, the six‑lane (3 + 3) expressway will provide a high‑speed, signal‑free route connecting the sea bridge Atal Setu to NMIA and adjacent economic zones such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (NMSEZ).
CIDCO’s Vice‑Chairman and MD, Vijay Singhal, highlighted that the project will free up traffic from congested routes like Palm Beach Road, Amra Marg and National Highway‑348, drastically shortening travel times between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Advanced engineering techniques are being used in the construction including prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs), stone‑columns and rock‑fill sourced from the airport site to ensure long‑term stability and sustainability of the road. The project also features flyovers, a railway overbridge, smart LED lighting, anti‑crash barriers and intelligent traffic management systems.
With NMIA’s operations expected to ramp up, the Ulwe Coastal Road is set to become a pivotal component of the region’s transport infrastructure. Officials say the construction is on course to meet deadlines and will be a transformative addition to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s connectivity framework.
