In Velapur village of Kopergaon taluka, Ahmednagar district, a birthday-party slight sparked a violent outburst: one friend assaulted another and set his bike ablaze, prompting police action.
8 November 2025, Velapur, Kopergaon taluka, Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) — A bizarre and shocking incident has been reported from Velapur village in Kopergaon, where a friendship spiralled into violence over something as petty as a missed birthday party. According to the complaint, 24-year-old Prakash Balasaheb Gaikwad was sitting near the village society office with friends when 26-year-old Sunil Mhasu Jagdhane arrived in an angry and allegedly intoxicated state. He confronted Prakash with the question, “Why didn’t you give me a birthday party?” and before anyone could react, Sunil started hitting him. He assaulted Prakash repeatedly and struck his left hand with a stone, causing injuries. The group managed to separate the two, and Prakash went home thinking the matter had ended. Instead, the situation escalated dramatically later that night.
Around 12.30 a.m. on 6 November, Sunil returned to Prakash’s home, where his parents were also present. Witnesses say Sunil shouted abuses, kicked the door, and then turned his attention to Prakash’s parked “Splendor” motorcycle outside the house. He took out a bottle filled with a chemical liquid, poured it over the motorcycle and set it ablaze. Flames shot up instantly, and despite efforts to control the fire, the vehicle was completely destroyed by the time help arrived. After setting the bike on fire, Sunil fled the spot, leaving the family terrified and the villagers shocked at the extent of his rage.
The incident triggered panic in the locality, with residents gathering outside their homes to see what had caused the commotion. Prakash later approached Kopergaon Taluka Police Station, where a case was registered against Sunil under charges of assault, abuse, damage to property and arson. Police officers have begun their investigation and are verifying whether more individuals were involved or if Sunil acted alone in the moment of anger.
Locals say the two had been friends for years, which makes the sudden outburst even more surprising. Many in the village are calling it a worrying example of how rage, alcohol and hurt ego can push someone toward dangerous actions. The police have advised villagers to treat such fights seriously and report threats early, especially when intoxication is involved.
The case continues to draw attention across Ahmednagar district because of its unusual trigger and the extreme reaction that followed. Authorities are now working on tracing Sunil and collecting statements from eyewitnesses to build the full sequence of events. For the village, the incident has become a reminder that small disputes can turn into criminal acts when not handled calmly.
