PUNE, 13 November 2025 – A focused operation by the Crime Branch Unit 2 of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate led to the arrest of three individuals, one of whom is associated with the Sharad Mohol gang. The action took place near Bodkewadi Phata on the busy Hinjawadi-Maan Road after officers received specific information about the suspects’ movements. The police team intercepted the men at the location and recovered four pistols and five live cartridges. The arrests have drawn attention across Pune, especially because of the involvement of a known gang-linked accused.
The three arrested include Pravin Gundeshwar Ankush from Shaninagar in Katraj, Vicky Deepak Chavan from Ghotavde in Mulshi, and Rohit Fulchand Bhalshankar from Vadgaon’s Jadhavanagar. According to police records, Chavan has confirmed links to the Sharad Mohol gang and had previously been arrested this year with illegal weapons near the Mezza Nine Hotel in Hinjawadi. Ankush is wanted in a case registered in Ghatkopar that involves serious allegations filed in 2023. Bhalshankar, the third accused, has a criminal track record that includes cases under POSCO and multiple theft-related offences. Their profiles indicate a pattern of repeated offences, raising concerns about the circulation of arms and the active presence of organised crime in the region.
The operation was initiated after Crime Branch Unit 2 received reliable intelligence that the trio would gather in the Bodkewadi area. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Vishal Hire supervised the plan, and a team led by officer Amar Rane moved into position to monitor the location. When the suspects arrived, officers swiftly moved in and apprehended them. During the search, the team discovered four country-made pistols and five live cartridges, which the accused were allegedly planning to circulate or use for upcoming criminal activity. The weapons will undergo ballistic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
This seizure is seen as a meaningful step forward for Pune’s crime-control efforts. Illegal weapons have been an increasing concern in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hinjawadi belt, an area that continues to expand with tech parks, residential clusters, and high-volume traffic throughout the day. Police officials noted that removing even small batches of these weapons can disrupt the supply chain used by gangs and repeat offenders. The presence of a Sharad Mohol gang associate adds weight to the operation, suggesting that criminal networks may still be attempting to strengthen their presence in the outskirts of the city.
Residents across the region have welcomed the quick response and intelligence-led policing shown in this case. The police force has been focusing on identifying patterns, tracking communication channels, and intercepting movement of gangs that often depend on fast, untraceable coordination. Officers familiar with the investigation said that more arrests could follow as data from the accused is analysed. Mobile phones, contact lists, and recent financial transactions will be examined to trace the source of the pistols and determine whether more weapons were expected to reach the area.
The three accused will be produced in court, and the police are preparing a detailed report based on the first round of questioning. Investigators believe that the weapons were being transported for either targeted attacks or gang-related disputes, though they are not ruling out the possibility of illegal resale. As crime units across Maharashtra continue to monitor the movement of such networks, the arrests in Pune mark another coordinated effort to curb the reach of organised crime.
