In Badlapur, Bahujan Mukti Party Scores Big Under MVA: Allocated Double the Seats of Congress–NCP
Badlapur
During the seat‑sharing deal in Badlapur for the ruling MVA alliance, the Bahujan Mukti Party secured twice as many seats as the Congress–NCP bloc, signalling a strategic shift in alliance dynamics.
Mumbai | November 14, 2025: In a notable move ahead of upcoming civic polls in the Badlapur region, the ruling MVA (Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi) alliance has granted the Bahujan Mukti Party (BMP) double the number of seats compared to the traditional heavyweight partners Indian National Congress and National ist Congress (NCP) under the seat‑sharing arrangement for the Badlapur electoral area.
Sources from inside the alliance say the decision reflects the BMP’s growing clout in the region, especially among backward class and Dalit voters. Party insiders reveal that the BMP argued effectively for a higher share, claiming it commanded a solid ground‑level support base and delivery record. The Congress and NCP accepted the arrangement, albeit with reservations, to maintain alliance unity.
Details of the seat count show that if the Congress–NCP combine was allotted X seats, the BMP was granted 2 X seats in the contested region. Political observers say this shift marks a tactical acknowledgment of BMP’s rising influence and the need for the MVA to recalibrate its internal power equation ahead of future larger elections.
Senior leaders in the BMP welcomed the allocation, asserting it gives them a “fair share” of representation and responsibility. Congress and NCP strategists, while publicly supportive, are reportedly recalibrating their ground strategy to make up for the reduced seat quota.
The alliance leadership stressed that this arrangement is part of a broader pragmatic approach: “Seat‑sharing must reflect evolving ground realities, not old hierarchies,” said an MVA official. Criticism from opposition parties has been muted at this stage, but analysts expect sharper contestation once campaigns begin.
The seat allocation arrangement for Badlapur signals a noteworthy shift in Maharashtra’s coalition politics, with smaller regional parties gaining larger roles within alliances.
