Ladki Bahin Yojana e-KYC deadline sparks panic as OTP issues continue, beneficiaries await extension

With the Ladki Bahin Yojana e-KYC deadline approaching, women across Maharashtra are struggling due to OTP failures and portal errors. Many are now hoping for an official extension.
Mumbai, | Nov 17, 2025 –: The Ladki Bahin Yojana has entered a stressful phase for thousands of women in Maharashtra as the final date for e-KYC verification approaches. Beneficiaries are struggling to complete their authentication due to OTP delays, technical errors and portal crashes, and many are unsure if the government will grant more time. The deadline is currently November 18, and women who fail to complete their verification will not be able to receive benefits. This has led to long queues at centres, repeated login attempts at home and rising frustration across districts.
A large number of women have complained that they are receiving the message “OTP sent,” but no code arrives on their registered mobile number. Others say the website freezes just before submission, forcing them to restart the entire process. Attempts made during late-night hours and early mornings have not worked for many users. Beneficiaries and social workers are warning that the system is not equipped to handle the current load and that people are being unfairly penalised for technical faults beyond their control.
The scheme was launched to provide monthly financial support to eligible women. The e-KYC requirement was introduced to prevent duplication and ensure authenticity using Aadhaar-linked verification. While the government has repeatedly appealed to citizens to finish the process, the situation has now shifted to mass confusion and anxiety. Social media is filled with complaints, screenshots and SOS messages from women who fear losing access to the scheme purely because the OTP isn’t arriving.
Officials from the Women and Child Development Department have so far not confirmed whether the deadline will be extended, but some sources have hinted that an internal discussion is underway. Community networks, local leaders and activists have also urged the administration to grant at least a short extension so that no eligible beneficiary loses her benefits.
Helpline numbers are flooded with calls. Many women, especially those from rural areas and low-income households, are dependent on the financial support the scheme provides. For them, a missed verification is not just a delay but a direct economic setback. Several districts have seen people standing in queues at local cybercafes and Seva Kendras, hoping to complete the process with technical help. Even these centres are reporting server errors and long waiting times.
The situation has exposed deeper questions about the readiness of government platforms to handle large-scale public authentication. It also highlights the digital divide among users, where those with slower internet or limited digital literacy suffer the most. While the core intention behind the e-KYC system is transparency, the execution has left many women anxious just hours before the deadline.
If the government announces an extension, it may offer temporary relief, but expectations are that the technical bottlenecks will still need long-term solutions. Beneficiaries and support groups are now watching closely for any official statement. Until then, the pressure continues to build on the administration to respond before lakhs of women are cut off from a scheme built for their welfare.
