| 25 November 2025: The RTO in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has stepped up safety checks on the Samruddhi Expressway, focusing on tyre condition as part of a major accident-prevention effort. According to official reports, by August 2025, authorities had inspected more than 200,000 tyres on vehicles entering the highway. Inspectors have stopped vehicles with worn or dangerously smooth tyres. For such vehicles, the policy is strict: “No smooth tyres no entry.” This crackdown reflects concern over frequent breakdowns and accidents. In a related RTO campaign, over 6,500 drivers have already been counselled for risky behavior such as overspeeding and poor vehicle fitness.

The tyre inspections are being conducted at various entry points of the highway, and the initiative aligns with broader road-safety measures. Independent audits have previously flagged tyre bursts and mechanical failures as common causes of accidents on the expressway.

In addition to inspections, RTO teams are working with police to monitor compliance. At entry toll plazas, drivers are being tested for tyre tread, pressure, and overall condition. Vehicles failing these checks are turned back, reducing the chances of dangerous breakdowns on a high-speed route.

Safety advocates view this as a step in the right direction, especially given a 16% increase in accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway this year. With such preventive measures, authorities hope to cut down the risk of tyre-related crashes and improve road safety for all expressway users.
