Maharashtra’s transport minister has announced a dedicated ST helpline to address school‑student bus issues delays, cancellations or breakdowns ensuring faster redressal and accountability from depot managers.
Maharashtra | 27 November 2025: The Maharashtra government has rolled out plans for a special helpline under the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to address travel-related issues faced by school and college students. The announcement was made by the state transport minister, who affirmed that the new helpline will help students report problems such as delayed or cancelled buses, technical breakdowns, or route disruptions.
Under the scheme, contact numbers of all 31 divisional controllers will be shared with educational institutions so principals, teachers, and students can directly lodge complaints during emergencies. The minister warned that bus depot managers may face strict consequences including suspension if lapses lead to students missing classes or exams.

The helpline is seen as an effort to improve accountability and reliability of student transportation, especially during peak hours and for routes covering rural or remote areas. Earlier this year, MSRTC had introduced a scheme delivering subsidised ST bus passes directly to students via their schools, eliminating the need to stand in long queues at depots.

Officials said the decision responds to repeated complaints from students and parents over abrupt cancellations or delays that disrupt daily commuting and studies. With the helpline and stricter oversight of depots, the government hopes to safeguard the right to safe, timely and dependable travel for students across Maharashtra.
