Pune
Pune District Administration declares December 2, 2025, a public holiday for municipal and Nagar Panchayat elections, ensuring voters can participate freely, with government offices and banks also observing the holiday.
Pune|29 November 2025: The Pune District Administration has declared a public holiday on December 2, 2025, to ensure that all eligible citizens can cast their votes in the municipal council and Nagar Panchayat elections. The decision was confirmed by District Collector and District Election Officer Jitendra Dudi, who urged residents to make full use of the opportunity and participate in the democratic process.
The holiday will apply across various municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats where elections are scheduled. These include Alandi, Baramati, Bhor, Chakan, Daund, Fursungi–Uruli Devachi, Indapur, Jejuri, Junnar, Lonavala, Malegaon Budruk, Manchar, Rajgurunagar, Saswad, Shirur, Talegaon Dabhade, and Vadgaon. All eligible voters from these areas will be able to visit polling booths without workplace restrictions.
The order extends to government and semi-government offices, public sector undertakings, and banks operating within the district. Private establishments have been advised to allow employees who are voters in these constituencies to take leave for casting their votes. The administration clarified that even those temporarily working outside their home constituency on election day will be permitted to return and vote.
Officials noted that the step aims to increase voter turnout, which often drops due to weekday polling schedules. By declaring a district-level holiday, authorities hope to remove logistical hurdles for thousands of workers, students and daily commuters.
District Collector Dudi appealed to residents to contribute to a smooth and responsible election process. He emphasised that civic bodies play a key role in day-to-day public services, making citizens’ participation essential in choosing their local representatives.
Polling preparations are underway across all designated locations, with security arrangements, voter facilities and transport support being coordinated in advance. The administration has also urged voters to check their names on the voter list and carry valid identification on polling day.
With the holiday in place, officials expect higher footfall at polling stations and a more active civic response in the upcoming elections.
