At Vitthalwadi railway station in Thane, a child’s loud cry alerted passengers and helped foil a kidnapping attempt on her and two siblings. The suspect has been arrested by railway police.

Thane|December 02,2025: A potentially grave kidnapping attempt at Vitthalwadi Railway Station was thwarted when a young girl’s loud cry drew attention and prompted swift action from alert commuters. The accused, identified as 33‑year‑old Surajkumar Gupta, tried to lure three children  two daughters and a son, aged between seven and ten  with chocolates after finding them alone on the platform.

According to police, the children’s mother had left them briefly at the station while she went to deliver lunch to her husband in the Shantinagar area. Gupta approached them, offering sweets, and attempted to persuade them to go with him. At that moment, the girl began crying loudly, which drew the attention of other passengers.

Witnesses intervened immediately. The would‑be kidnapper insisted on taking the children, but commuters confronted him and restrained him. He was handed over to the railway police on site. A case has been registered under section 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Officials credit the timely reaction of fellow travellers and the girl’s courage for preventing the crime. The incident has underlined the importance of vigilance  especially around children travelling alone or waiting at railway platforms. Police have urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious behaviour immediately.

The safe rescue of the three children offers relief, but also serves as a stark reminder of risks waiting at crowded public transit points. Rail users are urged to stay watchful and to help protect vulnerable passengers, especially minors.
