Pune to Begin Major Repairs of Hadapsar Flyover in Two Months to Strengthen Aging Infrastructure

After four years, Pune schedules ₹5 crore overhaul of Hadapsar Flyover – nine expansion joints and 268 bearings to be replaced; traffic plan to minimise disruption.

Pune|08 December 2025: The municipal authorities in Pune are gearing up for comprehensive repairs to the ageing Hadapsar flyover – a critical overpass along Solapur Road -after a gap of four years. The plan involves replacing all nine expansion joints and 268 bearings, a move aimed at reinforcing structural integrity and ensuring smooth vehicular movement on one of the city’s busiest corridors.

The flyover, roughly 20 years old and originally built by the state road agency, has remained under the maintenance of the civic body. It serves as a vital link toward Saswad Road and helps bypass the often-congested Hadapsar Chowk and surrounding gaothan areas – making it an essential artery for heavy vehicles, buses, and daily commuters.

According to civic officials, structural auditors recently evaluated the flyover and urged a full-scale restoration. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹5 crore. A tendering process has begun to appoint a specialist agency to carry out the work, which is expected to commence in approximately two months.

When in use, the flyover has significantly eased traffic. However, during the partial repairs carried out in 2022, commuters experienced prolonged delays. Residents and transporters have urged the authorities to plan a detailed traffic management strategy this time to avoid similar disruption.

Officials say the repair work will address key structural weaknesses: worn-out bearings and worn expansion joints that, if left unattended, could lead to cracks, bumpy rides, and even safety risks. Once restored, travellers can expect smoother rides and longer lifespan for the flyover.

To limit inconveniences during repairs, the civic body will coordinate with the city police to prepare a traffic diversion and vehicular management plan. The goal is to keep traffic flowing even as heavy-duty work proceeds.

For many in Pune, especially daily commuters along Solapur–Saswad route, this project offers hope. As urban traffic continues to rise, ensuring robust infrastructure is key to safer, smoother mobility. But the success of the repair works – and minimising disruption – will depend heavily on effective planning, public communication, and timely execution.
