Thane| December 11, 2025:The Kalwa – Titwala region in Kalyan-Dombivli is set to witness a massive ecological transformation as the municipal corporation gears up to plant 50,000 native trees using the globally acclaimed Miyawaki method. The initiative, undertaken by Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation, has already begun with the plantation inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goyal.

In the first phase, 30,000 native trees including banyan, peepal, kadamba, umbar, and other medicinal or aromatic varieties will be planted, followed by another 20,000 in the second phase. The Miyawaki pattern, known for rapid growth and dense greenery, will create a compact forest ecosystem within 20–30 years.

The project aims to make optimal use of available space while promoting biodiversity.While local residents will benefit from improved air quality, reduced pollution, and enhanced water retention in the soil.

KDMC has previously implemented Miyawaki plantations at multiple sites, showing promising results. This project will focus on Indiranagar near the Mandha-Titwala crematorium, utilizing open or underused land. Such urban forests are effective in industrial zones, schools, public parks, and barren areas, creating green lungs in the city.

Commissioner Goyal emphasized that these native forests not only beautify the city but also provide long-term ecological benefits. The initiative is expected to inspire residents and institutions to adopt similar green practices in their communities.
