Pune, June 17, 2026: A notorious repeat offender from Pune’s Sinhagad Road area has been detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act and shifted to Nagpur Central Prison for a period of one year, following a series of serious criminal offences and repeated violations despite earlier preventive action by the police.

The accused, identified as Aman Ambir Zharekari (22), a resident of Dandekar Bridge locality on Sinhagad Road, had been on the records of Pune Police for multiple violent crimes. Authorities stated that six criminal cases had been registered against him at Sinhagad Road and Parvati police stations. Despite previous preventive measures, he allegedly continued engaging in criminal activities that posed a threat to public safety and law and order.

According to police officials, Zharekari was involved in offences including attempted murder, attempted robbery while armed with deadly weapons, unlawful possession of firearms, rioting, vandalism, causing injuries, assembling unlawful groups, instigating violence, damaging public and private property, and creating fear among local residents. Police said his activities had generated an atmosphere of intimidation in the Sinhagad Road region, adversely affecting public peace.

Acting under the guidance of senior officers of Pune City Police, including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other top officials, the Sinhagad Road Police Station initiated a proposal under Section 3(1) of the MPDA Act. The proposal was prepared after surveillance officers gathered substantial evidence documenting the accused’s criminal conduct and his continued threat to society.

After examining the proposal, the Pune Police Commissioner approved the detention order on June 10, 2026. Following the execution of the order, Zharekari was formally served the detention notice and transferred to Nagpur Central Prison, where he will remain detained for one year under the provisions of the MPDA Act.

Police officials said the action reflects Pune Police’s continued efforts to curb organised criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of citizens by taking stringent measures against habitual offenders who repeatedly disturb public order.
