Leopard Rescued from Fencing Wire Near Mulshi and Shifted to Pune Wildlife Centre

A leopard entangled in fencing wire near Mulshi was successfully rescued by Pune Forest Department and RESQ CT teams, safely transported to Pune Wildlife Transit Treatment Centre for care and assessment.

Mulshi | December 15, 2025:Early on December 14, 2025, a report was received regarding a leopard trapped in fencing wire near Mulshi. The Pune Forest Department immediately contacted the RESQ Charitable Trust team, which mobilised within three minutes from the Wildlife Transit Treatment Centre at Bavdhan, Pune.

The rescue was conducted jointly by the Forest Department and RESQ CT. Dr. Satvik Pathak, Wildlife Veterinarian at RESQ CT, safely tranquilised the leopard before securing and transporting it to the Wildlife Transit Treatment Centre for a full health check and veterinary care.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Shri Mahadev Mohite, IFS, noted that the entire operation from receiving the report to securing the leopard in a cage was completed within 1.5 hours. He emphasized that the teams remain ready for swift response to wildlife emergencies at all times.

Dr. Pathak explained that the leopard’s entanglement posed risks both to itself and the rescuers. Approaching by vehicle allowed a safer darting method, preventing any potential danger from an unpredictable charge. The animal has recovered from sedation and is currently stable.
Neha Panchamiya, Founder and President of RESQ CT, highlighted the critical role of local residents. Their cooperation ensured the rescue proceeded smoothly, allowing teams to focus entirely on the animal’s safety.

The Forest Department and RESQ CT reiterated the importance of timely reporting and community cooperation in ensuring successful wildlife rescue operations. This incident serves as a reminder of the vital collaboration between authorities and local citizens in protecting wildlife.
