The Indian Army has announced JAG Entry recruitment for unmarried male and female law graduates, inviting applications for Short Service Commission to strengthen its legal and judicial framework


New Delhi, January 30, 2026:The Indian Army has released the official notification for recruitment to the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch under the Short Service Commission (SSC), inviting applications from unmarried male and female law graduates. The recruitment drive aims to strengthen the Army’s legal cadre by inducting qualified advocates to handle military justice and legal advisory roles.

As per the notification, a total of eight vacancies have been announced for the JAG Entry. Candidates applying for the post must be between 21 and 27 years of age as on July 1, 2026. Applicants should possess an LLB degree with a minimum of 55 per cent aggregate marks from a Bar Council of India–recognised institution. In addition, candidates must be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council.

A valid CLAT PG 2025 score is mandatory for all applicants, and selection will be based on shortlisting followed by the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview process. The Army has clarified that only candidates meeting the prescribed educational and eligibility criteria will be considered for further stages.The notification also outlines nationality requirements. Applicants must be Indian citizens, or subjects of Nepal or Bhutan. Tibetan refugees who came to India before January 1, 1962, as well as persons of Indian origin who have migrated from select countries with the intention of permanent settlement in India, are also eligible, subject to government regulations.

Interested candidates are required to apply online only through the official Indian Army recruitment portal. Applicants must fill in their personal, communication, educational, and SSB-related details carefully. After the application window closes, candidates will be required to download and retain two copies of the submitted application form bearing the system-generated roll number.Officers commissioned into the JAG Branch play a vital role in the Indian Army, dealing with military justice, operational law, and providing legal advice to commanders.
