Maharashtra suffered a dramatic batting collapse in their Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh, losing six wickets for 66 runs while chasing 267, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prithvi Shaw failing

Indore|January 31,2026:Maharashtra’s hopes of securing a place in the Ranji Trophy knockout stage suffered a major setback after a disastrous batting performance against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a target of 267 in the second innings, Maharashtra were reduced to a precarious 66 for 6, putting them under severe pressure in a must-win Group B encounter. The collapse was triggered by the early dismissal of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was out for a duck, unable to handle the disciplined bowling attack of the hosts.Senior opener Prithvi Shaw also failed to provide stability at the top, managing only five runs before being dismissed. Maharashtra’s experienced middle order followed suit, with wickets falling at regular intervals as Madhya Pradesh bowlers exploited the conditions effectively.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh had posted a competitive second-innings total, setting Maharashtra a challenging but achievable target. However, the visitors’ batting lineup struggled against pace and movement, failing to build partnerships at a crucial stage of the match. The sharp bowling effort from Madhya Pradesh kept constant pressure on the Maharashtra batters, who appeared tentative and unable to rotate strike. With half the side back in the pavilion before crossing 70 runs, Maharashtra were left staring at a possible defeat.

The outcome of the match is critical for Maharashtra, who entered the contest with strong chances of qualification. The dramatic collapse has now complicated their campaign, while Madhya Pradesh strengthened their position in the points table with a commanding performance.
