Jalgaon’s municipal politics has heated up as the final day of nominations for the mayor and deputy mayor posts in the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation saw a flurry of applications from major political parties.
Jalgaon/Maharashtra, January 31, 2026: On January 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted 12 nomination forms six each for the mayor and deputy mayor positions signalling its strong intent to secure leadership of the civic body. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena faction aligned with the Mahayuti alliance also filed multiple nominations, submitting two applications for the mayor post and two for deputy mayor, according to official counts.

The large number of nominations from both the BJP and Shiv Sena (Mahayuti) has created a political buzz in Jalgaon, with supporters and local political observers closely watching who will be the final candidates and how alliances may shape the upcoming election. With both parties part of the broader Mahayuti alliance at the state level, the jockeying for key civic positions reflects internal dynamics and negotiations within the coalition, as well as competition for influence at the local level.

The suspense remains as of January 31, with observers waiting to see if any additional nominations are filed by February 2 the deadline for candidacy declarations. With Jalgaon’s corporation results earlier showing a strong majority for the Mahayuti coalition in the local polls, the selection of the mayor and deputy mayor candidates will be crucial for governance and political balance in the city’s civic administration.
