Southern Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth reviews Gujarat’s operational readiness, leads Defence Exercise, and launches medical, cultural, and welfare initiatives, highlighting Indian Army’s commitment to security, healthcare, and community service


Pune|09 Feb 2026: Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, conducted an extensive operational review in Gujarat this week, emphasizing preparedness along the Creek and Kutch sectors. The visit included the Defence of Gujarat Exercise, a large-scale drill designed to validate operational readiness, multi-agency coordination, and rapid response mechanisms in challenging terrains. Officials noted the exercise reinforced Southern Command’s capability to safeguard national interests across diverse operational domains.

In Bhuj Military Station, Lt Gen Seth inaugurated a mega Surgical Eye Camp Outreach Programme, supported by specialist teams from Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi. The camp screened over 2,500 patients from more than 120 remote villages, restoring vision for over 200 beneficiaries through advanced diagnostic and surgical interventions. The initiative highlighted the Army’s commitment to extending quality healthcare to underserved communities in Gujarat.

Later, in Ahmedabad, the Army Commander, alongside Mrs Komal Seth, Regional President of Southern Command Army Women Welfare Association (AWWA), interacted with Veer Naris and Veer Matas, honoring their courage and sacrifice. The event underscored the Indian Army’s dedication to supporting families of fallen and serving soldiers.

The visit concluded with Shaurya Sandhya, attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. The evening blended martial pride and cultural heritage, featuring NIFT students presenting khadi fashion, Bharatnatyam performances, and dynamic military demonstrations including Jhankh Pathak, Kalaripayattu, and the Army Martial Art Routine (AMAR). The event celebrated a Saksham aur Surakshit Bharat, reinforcing the Indian Army’s enduring bond with the people as India progresses toward Viksit Bharat @2047.
